House Sitting

For the past three weeks, I have been without a home. I spent two of those weeks mooching off two very generous friends and then discovered that people actually pay strangers to housesit for them while they are away…. WHAT?!

This is crazy and genius, and I am benefiting greatly from it. Growing up in a small town I didn’t realize that it might be difficult for people in the city to find friends who had enough room in their schedule to take care of their pets. I signed up (with much reservation) to Rover.com and within a couple days I had a job taking care of two sweet greyhounds. I needed a place to stay, they needed someone to pick up their dogs’ poop, it’s a win-win.

That being said, I am currently sitting at their house doubled over laughing at these dogs and how they sleep on the couch. They look wasted. Mr. Jude is on his back, legs spread. Boomer is using Mr. Jude’s crotch as a pillow. Both have open mouths, tongues hanging out, and are snoring. I am literally getting paid to witness this. How have I not been housesitting all through grad school?!

The downside of this job was when Boomer ate a packet of salad dressing. You know, the kind that comes in a salad kit? Yeah, he ate the entire thing, plastic and all. After doing some research, I decided he probably wasn’t going to die and he threw it up the next day. Never have I ever been so relieved to clean up vomit.

So far, this has been fun and weird, and I’m glad I get to hang out with these two lanky creatures.
